EVENTS

The space asks a $8—$20 ticket price for all events (with few exceptions) and splits all “ticketing” costs 50/50 with event curators. No performers are ever asked to pay to play. Infrequently, artists do not get paid. This financial model is not a mandate, it is flexible in response to community needs. Often, Junior High’s cut is lessened for fundraisers or events that prioritize paying LGBTQ+ artists, gender non-conforming artists, and artists of color. In some instances, we employ a flat rate instead of the split. Reach out if you'd like the financial structure of a specific event disclosed.

GALLERY OPENINGS

The gallery asks a suggested donation at each art opening. Junior High collects the full amount of that profit. A majority of that money is used for repainting and repairing the walls post-exhibit. The rest goes into rent. Profits for artwork sold goes is split between Junior High and the creator(s).

MERCHANDISE SALES

All of our merchandise is bought sustainably from US manufacturers and designed in the U.S. Junior High merchandise is sold via our online store and physical shop. If Junior High sells products from a different creator, that product was purchased wholesale in full. No creators/sellers are left unpaid.

DONATIONS

Junior High hosts a donation page through our website/Paypal and receives donations sporadically of varying amounts. The average donation is $15.

CROWDFUNDING

Junior High has run four successful crowdfunding campaigns. The first ($15k) paid for rent, insurance, and the security deposit on our physical location. Money from the second campaign ($15k) went towards our monthly bills so we could alleviate some of the pressure on events as our most crucial revenue stream. This was influencing booking as well as flooding the calendar with programming that didn't fully align with our mission statement. Donations from our third campaign ($15k) went to building renovations to make Junior High safer and more accessible. Our fourth campaign ($80k), post COVID-closure, helped us move to a new location and reopen after a year+ of unforeseen financial hardship.

SPONSORS

Occasionally Junior High will host an event sponsored by a brand whose ethos aligns with ours. The companies supply funding in exchange for promotions through our social media channels. This money goes towards an individual event (generally for prints, installation equipment, and libations). If we receive compensation to promote an event or product, it will be made clear that the promotion is an advertisement or a paid partnership.

PATREON

Since 2018, Junior High began offering Memberships through Patreon. We make just over $1400 monthly after the 5% Patreon cut.
